Everyone know that we celebrate the 4th of July with Fireworks. This holiday is known for fun drinks, tasty barbecues, and sweet treats while having fun with family and friends.
But did you know that the entire month of July is just chocked full of things to do with your mouth? Every week in July there is something to celebrate and/or eat, which means there’s also an assault on your teeth.
Saturday, the 6th is National Fried Chicken Day. The following week starts w/ Macaroni Day on the 7th, National Sugar Cookie Day on the 9th and ends w/ National French Fries Day on the 13th.
The middle of the month all is quiet until the 18th and National Caviar Day. Then one of our favorite days is “Stick Your Tongue Out’ Day is the 19th.
The next week starts with National Junk Food Day on the 21st and we all can smile on the 23rd when we celebrate the introduction of the first ice cream cone in 1904.
And we finish off the month with National Lasagna Day on the 29th and National Cheesecake Day on the 30th.
We all want healthy teeth and healthy gums. But the lure of sweet treats, delicious drinks, and decadent desserts during this month can overwhelm our otherwise sensible choices. Unfortunately, foods like these that damage teeth are all-too-common.
It’s easy to let our guard down and “skip” our usual teeth cleaning habits. Bad idea: This is precisely the time of the year when those habits are most needed!
Take a moment to recommit to your oral health routine, and make time to brush and floss. (And, if you have kids, make sure they are taking care of their teeth too!)
