The Invisalign Process: What To Expect

The Invisalign Process: What To Expect

At Grandville Dental, we’re dedicated to giving you the healthy, vibrant smile of your dreams. With advancements in dental technology, teeth straightening has become more accessible and less invasive than ever.

Among the leading methods is Invisalign, a clear and nearly invisible alternative to traditional braces. Here’s what you need to know about the Invisalign process and what to expect during treatment.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern approach to orthodontic treatment, using a custom-made series of aligners crafted for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Over time, these aligners will gently shift your teeth into place.

Why Choose Invisalign?

While traditional braces often come with numerous visits for adjustments, Invisalign requires fewer check-ins, making it easier to fit into a busy schedule. It’s also got some additional benefits that our patients love…

  • It’s discreet: Unlike traditional braces with metal wires and brackets, Invisalign is nearly invisible. This means you can smile confidently both during and after treatment.
  • It’s comfortable: Invisalign aligners are made from a soft plastic material, making them more comfortable than metal braces.
  • It provides flexibility: The aligners are removable, allowing you to eat, drink, brush, and floss normally.
  • It’s customized for you: Every set of Invisalign aligners is custom-made using advanced 3D computer imaging technology, ensuring a perfect fit.

The Invisalign Treatment Process

1. Consultation

Before beginning any treatment, we start by having you in for a consultation with our dental team. During this appointment, we’ll evaluate your dental health, discuss your smile goals, and determine if Invisalign is right for you.

2. Customized Treatment Plan

Once you’re deemed a candidate for Invisalign, we’ll take impressions and pictures of your teeth. We’ll also use a high-tech iTero scanner to create a 3D model of your mouth. Based on this model, a precise treatment plan will be mapped out, anticipating the exact movements of your teeth and the duration of your treatment.

3. Receiving Your Aligners

After your treatment plan is developed, your custom aligners will be made. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

4. Monitoring Progress

Approximately every six weeks, you’ll visit our office to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Throughout the treatment, you’ll be transitioning to the next set of aligners in the series to gradually move your teeth to their desired positions.

5. Completion

Once your treatment is complete, you may need to wear retainers to ensure your teeth remain in their new positions.

What to Expect During Treatment

Adjustment Period

Initially, you might experience some discomfort or feel a slight pressure. This is a good sign, as it means your teeth are moving into their desired positions.

Maintenance

You’ll need to keep your aligners clean. Regularly rinse them in lukewarm water and use the Invisalign cleaning kit or brush them softly with a toothbrush.

Dietary Restrictions

Unlike traditional braces, there are no dietary restrictions when completing Invisalign treatment. However, it’s crucial to remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water.

Oral Hygiene

Maintaining oral hygiene is simple with Invisalign. Since the aligners are removable, you can brush and floss your teeth as usual.

Duration

The treatment time with Invisalign averages between 9 to 15 months, but this can vary depending on the individual case.
